Night of Mystery is a leading creator of downloadable murder mystery party kits that turn any gathering—whether at home or the office—into an unforgettable whodunit. With a wide range of themes, character options, and group sizes, the company empowers hosts to effortlessly plan immersive events filled with intrigue, laughter, and surprise twists. Night of Mystery needed an ecommerce website that delivered the same level of excitement as their product: a fully immersive, visual experience that invites customers to imagine the party before they even hit “Add to Cart.”

Objective

Night of Mystery came to Lounge Lizard with a clear vision: build a new website that feels like the party has already started. Their existing digital experience was functional but outdated, lacking the visual energy, interactivity, and streamlined user journey that today’s shoppers expect. They wanted a one-of-a-kind site that:

  • Brought their brand’s fun and mysterious personality to life
  • Made it easier for users to explore and purchase party kits
  • Encouraged more engagement and conversion from the homepage
  • Positioned them as the go-to for at-home murder mystery kits in a growing, competitive market

Approach

To exceed expectations, we adopted a collaborative and transparent approach from kickoff to launch. Night of Mystery had a bold idea—and we matched that energy with a fully custom, trend-forward solution built on WordPress for both creative flexibility and backend ease.

Key Creative and UX Highlights:

  • Custom Mega Menu with Product Previews:
    Instead of a static dropdown, we embedded product visuals and quick-access links directly into the navigation, helping users dive into themed kits faster and more intuitively.
  • Interactive “Find Your Adventure” Quiz:
    We designed a branded quiz experience that acts as a virtual party planner, guiding users to the best kit for their group size, vibe, and occasion, driving product discovery in a gamified, on-brand way.
  • Stunning AI-Generated Visuals:
    To build a sense of story and drama around each party theme, we utilized AI to create dynamic, atmospheric imagery that captures the essence of each Mystery in a way stock photography never could.  The visuals don’t just decorate the site—they help tell the story. As users explore, they’re taken on a journey through a classic detective-style investigation unfolding in the middle of a celebration—from the moment a crime is discovered to the interrogations, the chase, and the ultimate reveal. It’s a visual narrative where “mystery meets party,” designed to pull visitors deeper into the brand’s world with every scroll.
  • Homepage as a Conversion Engine:
    We transformed the homepage into an immersive showcase of featured products, best-sellers, and interactive elements, helping visitors find their perfect kit without the need for endless scrolling.
  • Full-Site Redesign:Lounge Lizard led a comprehensive overhaul of the site’s layout, visual identity, and user flow, reimagining every touchpoint to increase engagement and optimize for the purchase of downloadable kits.

Impact

The new Night of Mystery site captures the energy, creativity, and suspense that define their brand. It doesn’t just sell party kits—it immerses users in the experience of planning one.

By blending storytelling with streamlined UX, the site strikes a balance between discovery and ease. First-time visitors are guided through an engaging product journey, while returning customers can easily find and purchase their favorite kits in just a few clicks.

Internally, the client team now has a modern, manageable CMS that enables ongoing product updates, seasonal refreshes, and content control—freeing them to focus on what they do best: crafting killer parties.

Results

While early post-launch metrics are still being gathered, success is measured by:
